Six questions to ask before you choose an app for your spray records

Since 1 January 2026, Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/564 asks professional users across the EU to keep the plant protection record in an electronic, machine-readable format. Regulation (EU) 2025/2203 lets each country decide that treatments made before 1 January 2027 do not have to be transferred into that format. Either way, a lot of farmers are choosing an app now.

These six questions work for any app, ours included.

1. Does it give me a real file, not a picture?

Machine-readable means structured data: each treatment with its fields kept apart, so a system can read it without anyone typing it again. A photo of your notebook or a scanned PDF is digital, but it is not machine-readable.

2. Can I take everything out whenever I want?

Ask for a full export of your records, at any time and also if you stop using the app. Your records are yours. If getting them out is hard, you have learned something about that supplier.

3. Does it work without signal?

The best moment to record a treatment is right after it, in the field. An app that needs coverage to save turns into a job for the evening, and evening jobs get forgotten.

4. Does it ask for what the rule asks for?

The regulation lists the minimum for each entry: the product and its authorisation number, the date, the dose per hectare, the area treated, where the field is, and the crop, with its EPPO code where it applies. Some countries ask for more, for example the reason for the treatment.

5. Does it know my country?

Products are authorised country by country, and so are the details: the data has to be in the electronic record within 30 days of the treatment, and each country may allow until 31 January of the following year. An app built for one country only can leave you with gaps.

6. Can the people who spray use it too?

If family or workers treat as well, they should record into the same farm record from their own phone, so nothing waits for one person to copy it over.

Agro GPS was built around these questions: you record each treatment in seconds, also without coverage, and export the whole record whenever you want.
